Dallas Cowboys Release Mike Hamlin

After entering the summer with a reported chance of winning a starting safety position, second year safety Michael Hamlin was released by the Cowboys Monday. Hamlin was a turnover machine in college but was unable to translate that skill to the NFL. He had been deactivated in the past each of the two games for rookies Barry Church and Danny McCray.

The release of Hamlin further taints a controversial 2009 draft. The Cowboys forfeited their top pick to obtain receiver Roy Williams and traded down repeatedly, finishing with 12 picks. Of those, just five remain active and just two - maligned kicker David Buehler and backup linebacker Victor Butler - were active for Sunday's game. Dallas has now released all three defensive backs chosen in the draft.
