The Board of Regents at Baylor University approved last week for the Bears to begin construction of a $250 million riverfront stadium in August, according to a report from the athletic department's website. Baylor's athletic director Ian McCaw called "this a monumental occasion" and "one of the biggest things to happen in the history of Baylor University."
Baylor athletics have been quite successful in the past few years, with appearances deep into the NCAA basketball tournament and an unprecedented women's team last season. But even with all that, nothing quite compares to the Heisman Trophy making its way to Waco with Robert Griffin III winning the award this past season.
At a Waco City Council meeting last week, the Council voted unanimously in support of a $35 million public contribution.
