The men's and women's basketball teams placed 1,200 impermissible phone calls.

An NCAA investigation has uncovered that the Baylor Bears men's and women's basketball programs placed more than 1,200 impermissible phone calls and text messages during a 29-month span, according to a report obtained by ESPN's Jason King.

The NCAA's probe began with the recruitment of Brittney Griner, the reigning Wooden Award winner in women's basketball. This past season she helped lead Baylor to a 40-0 season to win the national championship.

The NCAA's report also said there was a major violation in a cover-up attempt by a former member of the men's basketball staff.

The probe also determined that former men's assistant Mark Morefield committed a major violation when he attempted to influence two AAU coaches to furnish the NCAA with false and misleading information regarding a series of text messages. Morefield resigned in July 2011.

There were also 405 impermissible calls made from nine other sports, including football.

Baylor has already imposed several sanctions on themselves, including removing two scholarships from the women's basketball team this past season and one scholarship from the men's basketball team for this past season and next season.
