Confirmed: Cowboys Receive Fourth-Round Compensatory Pick

Sometimes, even with dirt on you, the sun shines through. Today at the owner's meeting, the Cowboys were awarded a fourth-round compensatory pick, #135 overall according to DallasCowboys.com's Rob Phillips, in exchange for losing 3-4 DE Stephen Bowen to rival Washington (along with WR Sam Hurd to Chicago) last offseason.

They signed S Abe Elam last offseason as well and that formula worked out to the fourth round pick for the franchise.

It may not seem like much, but the pick could easily turn out to be a player for Dallas, as many times the fourth round is where you select players you may have had second and third round grades on that for some reason have slipped through the cracks.

Unfortunately, you cannot trade your compensatory picks, so they cannot be packaged to move up a few slots in another round, but in essence it does give you flexibility for your fifth round pick should you want to package that. Whomever you were targeting at 145 will obviously be there at 135 and you can now trade away that fifth with no remorse.
