Baylor basketball recruiting: Center Dominic Woodson commits to Bears

Daniel Shirey-US PRESSWIRE

Four-Star recruit Dominic Woodson committed to Baylor Thursday morning, giving the Bears the No. 20-ranked recruiting class for the upcoming 2013 season.

According to Scout.com's Evan Daniels, four-star recruit Dominic Woodson has made the decision to commit to the Baylor Bears for the 2013 season. Woodson visited both Baylor and North Carolina State and made his decision publicly Thursday morning.

Woodson, who grew up in Kentucky, has lived in Texas lately and chose the school partially because it is close to his home.

"Its close to home, a great academic school and has a great coaching staff," Woodson said. "And [there's] a chance to win a championship."

Woodson's coach at Huntington Prep, Rob Fulford, said that he has improved both as a player on the court and a teammate off the court since his move to Texas and praised him for pushing through tough times.

"Dominic has made huge strides this year, not only on the court but from an attitude standpoint as well," Fulford told Scout.com. "This is great place for him to mature because he realizes we are going win with or without him."

"He is understanding what it takes to be a teammate and has huge upside," he added. "I'm proud of Dominic for continuing to push through what hasn't been a very easy life."

Woodson, the Bears' second top-50 recruit for the 2013 season, stands at 6'8 and weighs in at 240 pounds. He is the No. 3-rated center in the recruiting class and is the No. 40-ranked recruit overall. His signing moves the Bears up to No. 20 overall in recruiting classes.

Marc C. Moore, writer for SB Nation's Baylor site, Our Daily Bears, likes the signing, and he expects Baylor to sign more big-name players.

The good news is that I really doubt that it ends here. Baylor still definitely needs a point guard in this class due to the loss of Pierre Jackson and A.J. Walton after this season, and we'd probably like another wing, as well. That's why Stevie Clark (PG) and Hamilton (SG) fit so well in what Baylor is trying to build. We'll have to see, though, as Clark looks destined for Oklahoma State at this point. Perhaps Baylor finds another JUCO somewhere or takes a flyer, I don't know.
