2012 U.S. Open Scores: Andy Roddick Defeated By Juan Martin Del Potro

Andy Roddick lost to Juan Martin Del Potro in four sets at the 2012 U.S. Open Tennis Tournament on Wednesday afternoon. The Austin, Texas resident has said that this year's Open will be the final tennis tournament of his career.

Roddick fought back to take the ninth game of the fourth set, receiving a thundering ovation from the crowd at Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens, N.Y. However, Del Potro took the first two points of the following game, and put Roddick away for good.

Roddick, who was emotional in greeting the crowd following the match, will retire as a one-time Grand Slam champion, as he defeated Juan Carlos Ferrero in the finals of the 2003 U.S. Open. He reached four other Grand Slam finals, but lost to Roger Federer each time.

Del Potro will move on to the quarterfinals to face No. 2 seed Novak Djokovic.
