2012 U.S. Open Tennis Scores: Andy Roddick Advances To 4th Round With Win Over Fabio Fognini

Andy Roddick stayed alive at the 2012 U.S. Open on Sunday afternoon, defeating Italian Fabio Fognini, 7-5, 7-6, 4-6, 6-4, in a third-round match at Arthur Ashe Stadium in Flushing. It didn't come easy for Roddick, as Fognini made him work to earn the first two sets. Roddick put things together in the fourth and final set, making only three unforced errors, getting up a break, and holding serve to take the match. It wasn't as dominant as the win over Bernard Tomic, but with his career coming to a close, Roddick looks to be playing his best tennis of the summer.

Fognini battled back in the third set, however, holding serve and finally breaking through on his third set point to win it, 6-4. The demonstrative Italian made it a challenge for Roddick in each set, battling the American in front of the partisan crowd.

Roddick now moves on to the Round of 16, where he'll face Juan Martin Del Potro, the 2009 winner of the U.S. Open. It will be a highly anticipated showdown, likely scheduled for Tuesday night on Ashe.
