The race for the overall medal count at the 2012 London Olympics is between the United States and China. On Day 8 it was Team USA who holds a one medal lead over China, 54-53. After China it is the host country United Kingdom who is at 29 total medals. As for gold medals, the United States still leads China by one at 26-25.
On Saturday the United States won a pair of gold medals in the pool as they won the men's and women's 4x100m medley relay. The women's victory set a new world record. Track and field is just getting under way and the United States won a silver medal in the women's 100m and Galen Rupp and one in the men's 10,000m. The third medal came in the long jump as Will Claye won bronze.
