The Barclays 2012: Nick Watney Finishes At 10-Under, Wins The Tournament

Nick Watney has won the 2012 Barclays tournament from Bethpage Black Course in New York with a 2-under 69 on Sunday. He finished 10-under for the tournament.

Watney entered Sunday trailing Sergio Garcia by two strokes, as he finished Saturday's round at even-par, while Garcia ended the day 2-under. However, Watney birdied six holes on Sunday, which helped offset four bogeys. Meanwhile, Garcia fell apart in the middle of the round, bogeying three out of four holes during the stretch from eight through 11. He also bogeyed on holes one and 18, and only had one birdie on the day.

Sunday's win was the sixth of Watney's PGA career, and likely the best to date. Meanwhile, a guy who has more wins than anyone on the tour completely imploded, as Tiger Woods shot 5-over on the day, and finished at plus-1 for the tournament.

Baylor product Jimmy Walker overcame consecutive over-par rounds to shoot an even-par 71 on Sunday. Meanwhile, Texas native Bob Estes finished the tournament at 3-under, despite struggling to a 74 in the final round.

2012 Barclays Leadeboard: Nick Watney Takes 3-Shot Lead Over Sergio Garcia

The final pairing at The Barclays has made the turn at Bethpage Black, and American Nick Watney now holds a three-shot lead over playing partner Sergio Garcia. The Spaniard had enjoyed a two-shot lead on the outward nine, but back-to-back birdies by Watney and a bogey at No. 8 by Garcia swung the lead. Watney led the FedEx Cup regular season standings last year and emerged as one of the best players in the world, but he's had an underwhelming 2012. He's likely out of contention for the Ryder Cup team unless he goes nuts during the playoffs, but a win on Long Island could put him back in good shape for the $10 million prize.

Garcia is looking to go back-to-back after a win at Sedgefield last week. He already stated that he'll skip the Deutsche Bank next week in preparation for the Tour Championship in Atlanta and next month's Ryder Cup, but a win here would be yet another boost of confidence in advance of Medinah.

Baylor's Jimmy Walker carded a final round 71 on Sunday to finish the week at even-par. Walker had a solid week and was well within the top-100, to advance on to Boston next week.

The Barclays Leaderboard: Sergio Garcia Stands Alone Atop Leaderboard

Sergio Garcia stands alone at the leaderboard after three rounds at the Barclays, and holds a two stroke lead after shooting a 2-under par during his Saturday's round. In his second round, Garcia was all over the place on his front nine where he had three birdies, two bogies and four pars. Garcia settled down on the back nine by having two birdies and only one bogey.

Overall, Garcia is 10-under par and created some separation over Nick Watney as he shot his worst round of the tournament which was even par.

Former Baylor Bear Jimmy Walker continued his free fall by shooting his consecutive round of 74, and he is now tied for 43rd and is out of contention by being 11 strokes off the lead.

The Barclays 2012 Leaderboard: Nick Watney Still On Top, Jimmy Walker Continues To Drop

Nick Watney is only five holes through the third round of the 2012 Barclays tournament at Bethpage Black Course in New York, but he has already taken sole possession of the lead from Sergio Garcia with a trifecta of birdies.

Watney is now 11-under for the tournament, while Garcia is alone in second place at 9-under. He has a pair of birdies of his own on Saturday, but he also bogeyed the par-3 third hole, which has dropped him to two shots beneath the leader.

Baylor University product Jimmy Walker has stumbled down to even-par for the tournament. He finished Friday at 2-under, but three bogeys and a double-bogey have offset three birdies, resulting in a plus-2 through 15 holes. Other notables in action include Tiger Woods, who is even-par through seven holes, and Padraig Harrington, who has completely fallen off the map after being atop the leaderboard at the end of Day 1. Harrington is plus-3 on the day, dropping him to even for the tournament.

2012 Barclays: Jimmy Walker Struggles In Round 2, Shoots 3-Over Par

Former Baylor Bear Jimmy Walker had a good start in the first round at The Barclays by ending the day in the top five, but his second round performance took a dip as he shot a 3-over round of 74. For the two rounds he now sits at 2-under par, but he has dropped to a tie for 27th place after being in fourth place after the first round.

Walker's biggest struggles came on the ninth, 10th and 11th holes, where he proceeded to bogey each of those holes in succession. He also had a bogey on No. 3, but he did pick up a birdie on No. 4.

The second round is not completely over, and at this time he is six strokes off the 8-under leading pace of Nick Watney, who is done for the day, and Sergio Garcia (who has two holes left).

The Barclays 2012: Jimmy Walker Falls From Top Of Leaderboard

After shooting a 66 in round one at Barclays at Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale, N.Y., former Baylor Bear Jimmy Walker had earned a tie for the fourth spot in the tournament, just two strokes behind the leader, Padraig Harrington.

Harrington has yet to tee off for his second round on Friday; however, such is not the case for Walker who has just two holes remaining for his day and has seen his place on the leaderboard fall from No. 4 to No. 19 thanks to three bogeys on the day.

His two over performance thus far, has slowed the momentum gained by a five under performance on Thursday and caused for a fall from the top of the leaderboard.

Gaining ground, though, has been Texas-native, Bob Estes, who is three under par through 12 and up 21 spots to take a tie for the fifth spot, two strokes off the lead.
