The pool parties are dying out and school is starting up, which means fall is right around the corner. That means football -- NFL on Sundays, college football on Saturdays and high schools on Friday.
The Associated Press already has preseason polls out, and several Dallas-area schools are on it.
Checking in at No. 1 is Southlake Carroll, a perennial power that's sent both Chase Daniel and Greg McElroy to stardom in college and backup jobs in the NFL. They went 16-0 last year and have now won five of the last 10 5A state championships.
Dallas Skyline, which perennially churns out D1 prospects, is DISD's only representative in the poll, checking in at No. 3 overall. Euless Trinity, which benefits from a substantial Polynesian population due to its location near DFW, is at No. 6 while Desoto, one of the inner-ring suburbs, is at No. 7.
Allen, whose $60 million high school stadium you may have heard of, is right behind them at No. 8.
On the whole, if you follow college football, you'll recognize most of the schools in the Top 10 -- Lake Travis, Katy Cibolo Steele -- as producing high-level players throughout the Big 12. That's not a coincidence.
