2012 Olympics Medal Count: China Leads Overall, Gold Medal Count

The People's Republic of China is still large and in charge at the 2012 Olympic Games, as the Chinese lead the Olympics in both gold medals and overall medal count through Wednesday's action.

China has accumulated 17 gold medals, nine silver and four bronze -- good for 30 medals. The United States of America isn't too far behind, with 12 gold medals, eight silver medals and nine bronze medals, giving them 29.

Japan has the third-most, with 17. The Japanese, however, only have two gold medals, and have captured four silver and 11 bronze thus far.

France and Germany are tied for fourth, with 13 each. The French, however, have five gold medals to Germany's three. The Germans have eight silver medals and two bronze, while the French have three silver and five bronze.
