The five-game winning streak for the Texas Rangers was snapped when they fell 3-1 to the Oakland Athletics on Sunday night. Yu Darvish pitched well through seven innings allowing five hits and only three earned runs, however one of the runs came on a wild pitch which would ultimately be the game winning run. The loss for Darvish was his first of the year at home and lowered his record to 10-5.
The Rangers offense was stifled by A's starter Travis Blackley who also pitched seven innings but he only allowed one earned run to the Rangers when Elvis Andrus hit a RBI single in the third inning for the Rangers only run of the day. The Athletics trio of relief pitchers continued to shut down the Rangers offense and only allowed one hit over the final two innings.

The 21-year old Venezuelan left-hander has been one of the biggest names in the Rangers farm system since signing a six-figure contract in 2007. He earned his first career MLB win on Saturday night.

Despite issues with a bruised and battered starting rotation, the Texas Rangers continued their recent hot streak with a 7-2 win over the Oakland A's on Saturday night.
In front of yet another sellout at the Ballpark in Arlington, Texas got an impressive effort from rookie Martin Perez in his first career start, while their offense benefited from some untimely A's defense to get the win.
Perez final stat-line -- 5.1 innings, 2 earned runs and 6 hits, 6:1 K:BB -- wasn't dominant but it was more than enough in a game featuring two rookie starting pitchers.
Oakland rookie Tommie Milone was solid through four innings, but everything fell apart for the A's in the bottom of the fifth, when their defense allowed 5 unearned runs.
Josh Hamilton had one of his best efforts in weeks, going 2-4 with 1 HR and 4 RBI's to help Perez to his first career win.

The Texas Rangers are taking on the Oakland Athletics in the third game of a four game set, and the Rangers are sending out Martin Perez to the mound to go up against Athletics rookie Tommy Milone. Rangers manager Rod Washington has decided to give the left-hander Perez his first career start due to the Athletics poor play against lefties.
Perez only action in the Majors was this past Thursday where he went 2/3 of an inning, allowed two hits, a run and struck out one.
The A's Milone is 8-5 on the year and is entering this game carrying a 14-inning scoreless streak, and is making his second start against the Rangers. He last faced them on May 16 and in that game he gave up four runs over seven innings.
As for the Rangers field players they are putting in Mike Napoli at first base instead of his normal spot at catcher with Yorvit Torrealba taking Saturday's game behind the plate. Also, Friday night's hero Craig Gentry is in the starting lineup and will be playing center field and bat ninth.
Rangers lineup:
1. Ian Kinsler 2B
2. Elvis Andrus SS
3. Josh Hamilton LF
4. Adrian Beltre 3B
5. Michael Young DH
6. Nelson Cruz RF
7. Mike Napoli 1B

Martin Perez is set to make his first major league start on Saturday night, as the Texas Rangers play host to the Oakland Athletics.
Perez made his major league debut in relief on Wednesday against the Detroit Tigers. Perez threw 20 pitches, recording just two outs, while yielding four runs (one earned) on two hits and a walk.
Perez has been Texas' top pitching prospect for a few years, despite having unimpressive numbers in the minor leagues. Perez has almost always been young for his level, as the 21 year old has spent the majority of the year at AAA this year. Through 84 and 1/3 innings at AAA, Perez has a 4.59 ERA, and has struck out just 49 against 38 walks.
Still, Perez' first start is must-see television for any die hard Rangers fan.
Oakland will send a lefty of their own to the mound on Saturday -- Tommy Milone. Milone enters Saturday with an 8-5 record, 3.83 ERA and 1.19 WHIP. He's struck out only 57 batters in 96 and 1/3 innings of work, so expect the Rangers to put a lot of balls in play tonight.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:15 p.m. CT at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. Televised coverage can be found on FOX, rendering MLB.tv useless.

With all hope gone, a one-time defensive replacement and pinch runner delivered the clutch hit the Rangers needed.

The Texas Rangers had a strong outing from starting pitcher Matt Harrison who pitched eight innings, struck out eight batters and only allowed a pair of runs in a 4-3 win over the Oakland Athletics. The win for Harrison gives him 11 on the year and ties him with Tampa Bay's David Price for the American League lead.
The Rangers offense did not give Harrison too much help and blew a chance in the second inning when they had the bases loaded, but Mike Napoli struck out and Leonys Martin lined out to end the inning.
Trailing 2-0 heading into the eighth inning the Rangers needed some offense and they finally came through by once again they loaded the bases. A's reliever Grant Balfour walked Nelson Cruz to get the Rangers first run of the game. It was then Craig Gentry's bases clearing triple that finally put some runs on the board for the Rangers and the hit gave them a 4-2 lead.
Rangers reliever Tanner Scheppers nearly gave up the lead in the bottom of the ninth when he came in for Harrison. Scheppers gave up a solo home run to Chris Carter with two outs which made it a one-run game, but Scheppers was able to get the final out when pinch hitter Seth Smith grounded out to second base.

While the Rangers' pitching rotation has been beaten up consistently by injuries, Matt Harrison still enters Friday night's start against Oakland with tied for an AL-best 10 wins this season. While three other starters have gone to the DL in the last two months, Harrison is 6-0 with a 1.29 ERA in his last seven starts.
Meanwhile, one of those injured pitchers - Derek Holland - is rehabbing in Triple-A Round Rock. After Harrison's start on Friday, no decision has been made as to the Saturday starter, with Ron Washington's choice coming between Justin Grimm and Martin Perez.

The Texas Rangers used a four-run fifth inning to rally from a 4-2 deficit and give new starting pitcher Scott Feldman his second win of the season in a 7-6 victory.
This particular rally was without the long ball: Texas reached base five straight times without a ball leaving the infield. Leonys Martin led off and earned the first of four walks, then stole second, moved to third on Ian Kinsler's swinging bunt single, and scored on Elvis Andrus' infield single up the middle. After two more walks, including a bases loaded walk to tie the game, David Murphy's RBI single put the Rangers up for good.
Feldman was rocky early, but hung on. After giving up three home runs in the first three innings, he calmed down to hold the A's scoreless over his final two innings.
