Texas Vs. Missouri Baseball: Longhorns Lose To Tigers 7-6 in 11 Innings

The No. 25 ranked Texas Longhorns fell on the road to the Missouri Tigers 7-6 in 11 innings. In the bottom of the 11 inning pinch hitter Case Munson hit a sacrifice fly which allowed Dillon Everett to score from third base to defeat Texas. The win for Missouri also allowed them to win the series against Texas.

Texas got off to the early 2-0 lead, but in the bottom of the fourth inning Missouri made their move by scoring four runs with three off them coming off of a Dane Opel home run. Missouri scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh to go up 6-3, but in the top of the eighth Texas came back to tie the game at six thanks to small ball.

Then after a scoreless 10th and top of 11th, Missouri earned the win on the sacrifice fly. Corey Knebel took the loss for Texas bringing his record to 3-4 on the season. He pitched 5 and 2/3 innings, allowed six hits, three runs, two which were earned, one walk and striking out five batters.

Longhorns Lose Saturday Scrap 5-4

The No. 25 Texas Longhorns dropped a game to Missouri Saturday night that was a full-blown shootout through the first four innings, then settled into a tense pitchers' duel. The 'Horns and Tigers stayed locked at 4-4 through the late innings, before leadoff man Eric Garcia doubled in Scott Summerfeld in the eighth to give Missouri a 5-4 win.

Both Texas starter Dillon Peters and Missouri's Jeff Emens had short outings, as both offenses came out hot: Texas' Jonathan Walsh hit a 2-run homer in the first, then Missouri first baseman Andreas Plackis doubled in two runs in the home half of the inning. Summerfeld hit a solo shot in the second for Missouri; Texas responded in the third with an Erich Weiss sacrifice fly; Missouri's Case Munson drove in a run in the home third; Jordan Etier then drove in Jacob Felts on a sac fly in the Texas fourth.

Nathan Thornhill threw five innings of relief, striking out four and allowing one run, but he took the loss. Missouri reliever Dusty Ross earned his second win of the year with two scoreless innings.

Texas and Missouri play the final game of the series Sunday at 1 p.m. CDT.

Texas Survives Rally, Beats Missouri 6-4 Friday Night

The No. 25 Texas Longhorns started Friday evening's game in Columbia plenty hot, jumping out to a 5-0 lead entering the bottom of the fifth, but they had to hang tight to earn a 6-4 victory.

The Texas scoring started in the second, when Jordan Etier doubled home catcher Jacob Felts, then Jonathan Walsh hit a two-run dinger in the third for a 3-0 lead. In the fifth, a Felts double and an Alex Silver single drove in two more.

Longhorns starter Parker French pitched four scoreless, then gave up an Andreas Plackis triple to open the fifth before he left the game. The Tigers put Plackis across to cut the deficit to 5-1, then scored twice in the sixth and once in the seventh-all off Hoby Milner, who had a tough 2.1 inning outing- to make it a 5-4 game. The 'Horns then pushed across another run in the eighth on a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch to give closer Corey Knebel some cushion, and he responded by throwing 2.1 scoreless innings for the save.

The victory preserves the one-game lead in the Big 12 standings Texas (27-16, 13-6) holds over No. 9 Texas A&M, who beat Texas Tech Friday night.
