The 138th Run for The Roses will be held on Saturday.
It's now the first Saturday in May, and we all know what's coming later today: the 138th Run for the Roses, as the 2012 Kentucky Derby is set to be held on Saturday, May 5. Horse racing enthusiasts had better be at their television sets by post time -- they don't call it the Fastest Two Minutes in Sports for nothing, after all.
The post positions for this year's Kentucky Derby are as follows:
- Daddy Long Legs
- Take Charge Indy
- Union Rags
- Rousing Sermon
- Creative Cause
- Daddy Nose Best
- Went The Day Well
- El Padrino
- Done Talking
- I'll Have Another
Post time is scheduled for 6:24 p.m. locally in Kentucky at Churchill Downs, 5:24 p.m. in the Dallas area. Pre-race coverage begins at 3 p.m. CT on NBC, with an Access at the Kentucky Derby/Red Carpet special. The race, as aforementioned, will begin around 5:24 p.m. -- so you'd better be by your television sets or local bar if you're hoping to catch the race live. Post-race ceremonies will be held live on NBC until 6 p.m., before switching over to NBC Sports Network for another hour of recap.
Union Rags has become the favorite to win the race, with 6/1 odds to do so. Bodemeister, who had been the favorite all week, has slipped to 8/1 odds. Dullahan has moved back to 10/1, while Gemologist remains at 8/1.
