Post positions for the 2012 Kentucky Derby have been announced, and top contenders Bodemeister and Union Rags will be racing right near each other out of the gate. Both Bodemeister and Union Rags are the favorites to win the 138th Kentucky Derby with 9/2 odds, and both should continue to have the best odds after the post positions were announced.
The post positions for this year's Kentucky Derby are as follows:
- Daddy Long Legs
- Optimizer
- Take Charge Indy
- Union Rags
- Dullahan
- Bodemeister
- Rousing Sermon
- Creative Cause
- Trinniberg
- Daddy Nose Best
- Alpha
- Prospective
- Went The Day Well
- Hansen
- Gemologist
- El Padrino
- Done Talking
- Sabercat
- I'll Have Another
- Liaison
Also of particular note is Take Charge Indy, who is third closest to the rail. Calvin Borel will be riding Take Charge Indy, and Borel is known for his antics riding the rail. We'll see if Borel is up to his old tricks, as he looks to win his fourth Kentucky Derby.
It's typically better to start further on the inside than the outside, but it is possible to win from the outside, as Big Brown won from post position 20, the furthest outside, in 2008.
