NCAA Baseball 2012: Ninth Inning Rally Saves Texas From Sweep In A&M Series

The Longhorns waited as long as they could, but finally put together two runs in the bottom of the ninth to win 2-1 on Sunday and avoid the sweep at the hands of No. 9 Texas A&M.

Erich Weiss and Jonathan Walsh hit back-to-back singles to open the ninth, Alex Silver bunted them over, Jacob Felts knocked in Weiss, then Walsh came home on a Jordan Etier grounder and slid in safe in a bang-bang play for the win.

Texas A&M starter Rafael Pineda stifled the Texas bats through 7.2 innings, striking out six and allowing only five baserunners. Texas starter Dillon Peters and closer Corey Knebel combined on a six-hit, one-run performance and struck out 11 Aggies.

The win kept Texas one game ahead of Texas A&M in the Big 12 standings. The Longhorns play Prairie View A&M Tuesday at 6 p.m. at UFCU Disch-Falk Field in Austin.

NCAA Baseball 2012: Texas Takes Sloppy Loss To Texas A&M 12-4

Texas did everything in their power to give Saturday's game with No. 9 Texas A&M away, and the Aggies took advantage, using five Longhorn errors and five hit batsmen to take a 12-4 win at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

Texas starter Parker French's line tells the story for the 'Horns: Five runs, but only one earned, on a mere four hits in 3.2 innings. French also committed two errors, while third baseman Erich Weiss had three muffed plays. Even if the Longhorns could have played a clean game, Aggies starter Ross Stripling might have negated their effort anyway: Stripling went eight full, allowing nine hits and three runs while striking out four and issuing no free passes.

Shortstop Jordan Etier was the hitting star for Texas, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a RBI, and Weiss, Mark Payton and Jonathan Walsh all had two hits each.

Texas (31-12, 11-6) will try to take one win away from this series and stay ahead of Texas A&M in the Big 12 standings when the two teams play Sunday at 2:07 p.m. CDT.

NCAA Baseball 2012: Longhorns Fall To Aggies Friday 6-5

After eight innings of offensive frustration, the No. 20 Texas Longhorns put together a five-run rally in the top of the ninth inning Friday evening. Unfortunately, the sixth and seventh runs were left on base, and those were the final two scores the Longhorns needed.

Texas (24-15, 11-5) was stymied through eight by Aggies starter Michael Wacha, who scattered four hits and two walks over 117 pitches. Four singles, two walks and a double got Texas their five runs in the ninth off Jason Freeman, but they weren't able to get runners across from second and third with two outs.Starter Nathan Thornhill went six innings for the 'Horns, giving up six runs (two earned), eight hits and two walks and throwing 105 pitches.

The Texas A&M win moved them within a game of Texas in the Big 12 standings.
