LSU Hires Away North Texas' Johnny Jones, According To A Report

North Texas is now in the market to find a new head coach as Johnny Jones is heading to LSU.

The LSU Tigers have reportedly have hired Johnny Jones away from the North Texas Mean Green to be their next basketball coach to replace Trent Johnson who left to take the TCU Horned Frogs job.. USA Today is reporting that LSU and Jones will be meeting to discuss contract details, but the deal is essential done:

"They will be meeting over the next few days on their contract, but for all intents and purposes he will be LSU's coach," said Bahnsen, who was a member of LSU's search committee along with athletic director Joe Alleva and associate athletic director Eddie Nunez.

Jones is a former LSU guard from 1980-84 and also an assistant coach from 1984-97. He has been the head coach at North Texas from 2001-12 and during his time there he compiled a record of 190-146, winning one conference title and making a pair of NCAA tournament appearances in 2007 and 2010.
