With the surprise hire of Trent Johnson as the next head coach of the TCU Horned Frogs, the spotlight on a dormant basketball program finally received some light. Although Johnson's record at his former gig at LSU wasn't a stellar one, with just a 67-64 record and one NCAA tournament birth in his first five seasons. Johnson was making around $1.2 million in Baton Rouge, but news has surfaced that Johnson's salary is about to receive a huge boost.
Wow RT @JacquesDoucet: Sources tell me Trent Johnson's salary at TCU will around two million dollars per season, with even more incentives

TCU's investment in their head coach mirrors the investment the Horned Frogs athletic department are putting into the entire basketball program. Moving into a Big 12 conference that only has one dominant player in Kansas, TCU has a chance to succeed early on. At $2 million a year, Johnson will be the third highest paid coach in the Big 12.

The TCU Horned Frogs have found their replacement to Jim Christian who left TCU to head back to the MAC to coach the Ohio Bobcats. Multiple sources are reporting that LSU Tigers head coach Trent Johnson has agreed to take over for TCU with the official announcement to be made on Monday.
Johnson has been at LSU for the past four seasons with mild success and with an overall record of 58-59 with one NCAA tournament appearance in 2008-09 before struggling for two years and then bringing LSU back into the postseason this past year with a trip to the NIT.
Other accomplishments in Johnson's coaching career it taking the Nevada Wolf Pack and the Stanford Cardinal to the Sweet 16, so for TCU to lose a coach to the MAC but to pick up one from the SEC is quite remarkable. This hire definitely helps TCU to move in the right direction for their inaugural year in the Big 12.

Although it seems just a matter of time until we receive official word about Jim Christian being introduced as the new coach at Ohio, we can officially cross off a return to TCU.
Chris Del Conte, the athletics director at TCU, released this statement early Tuesday evening:
"Jim Christian will not be returning as TCU's head men's basketball coach. We appreciate Jim's contributions to TCU and wish him the best. A national search for a new head coach will begin immediately. With our entrance into the Big 12, the momentum on the TCU campus and the great city of Fort Worth, we are very excited about the future of our men's basketball program."
There has been no word regarding who TCU will seek to replace Christian.

After some technical speak by the expected to be former TCU Horned Frogs head coach, Jim Christian looks to be on his way back to coach in the MAC as the new head coach for the Ohio Bobcats. Christian has not announced this and neither has either school, but the report of the introduction is coming from CBS Sports' Jeff Goodman.
Christian would be taking over for John Groce who led Ohio the Sweet 16 this past year, but Groce left to become the head coaching job at Illinois. The move by Christian has him heading back to the MAC where he had success as the head coach at Kent State.
His time at TCU was not great as Christian had only one winning season which was this year where TCU went 18-15 and made it to the quarterfinals of the CBI, and overall his record was 56-73.
Now TCU will be looking for a new head coach heading into their inaugural season in the Big 12.

The reports and rumors are flying fast about TCU Horned Frogs head basketball coach leaving the Big 12-bound Horned Frogs to return to the MAC to coach the Ohio Bobcats.
Even with this denial about taking the job and claiming all he has done is talk to Ohio, all of the signs point to Christian leaving TCU and taking the Ohio job.

As soon as it was reported that TCU Horned Frogs basketball head coach was set to leave TCU to take the Ohio Bobcats job there comes a conflicting report. According to Alex Apple who covers TCU basketball for Scout.com said he received a text from Christian saying nothing is official:
Just received the following text from Jim Christian: "The reports are not true...Nothing is official." #TCU

This tweet came fairly quickly after the initial report that said Christian was heading to Ohio. This tweet is also the only report at the moment saying Christian is denying the move, or at least saying that the move is not official. The wording in the tweet makes it seem that there is a possible move for Christian to Ohio since he says that nothing is official.
