A dominating 23-7 regular season and a 15-1 conference record will be all for nothing for UT-Arlington if they can't win the Southland Conference Tournament in Houston this week, as the Southland is clearly a one-bid conference.
The Mavericks, the No. 1 seed, begin first round play against No. 8 Nicholls State on Wednesday.
The Colonels, who finished the year with a 10-19 overall record, lost the first meeting between the two schools this year 85-55.
UT-Arlington is led by 6'5 senior G LaMarcus Reed III, who is averaging 17.6 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists on 46.4% shooting this year.
They weren't able to pull out a signature non-conference win, but they were competitive in losses to Texas, Baylor and Tulsa earlier in the season.
The 6:00 PM game will not be televised but the Southland Conference will update a live stream of the game on their website. If the Mavericks can make it to the conference championship game, it will be nationally televised on ESPN2 at 2:00 PM on Saturday.
