NASCAR Sprint Cup standings: Johnson increases lead to 7 points

Jimmie Johnson holds a seven-point lead with two races left on the Sprint Cup schedule.

Jimmie Johnson won the AAA 500 Sunday, edging Brad Keselowski at Texas Motor Speedway. With the victory, Johnson increased his lead over Keselowski in the Sprint Cup standings to seven points.

With two races left on the schedule, it would appear that the season championship will go to either Johnson or Keselowski. The drivers are sitting on 2,339 and 2,332 points, respectively. Clint Bowyer ranks third in the standings, 36 points behind the leader. Kasey Kahne is fourth, and Jeff Gordon and Matt Kenseth are tied for fifth. Kahne is 58 points behind Johnson, and Gordon and Kenseth trail by 72 points.

Denny Hamlin is in seventh place with 2,266 points. Tony Stewart and Martin Truex Jr. are tied for eighth (2,259 points), and Greg Biffle rounds out the top 10 at 2,256 points.

Johnson is trying to win his sixth Sprint Cup title in seven years. He won the season championship each year from 2005 to 2010, and Stewart won the title in 2011.

Next up for Sprint Cup drivers is the AdvoCare 500 at Phoenix International Raceway on Sunday, Nov. 11. The season concludes Sunday, Nov. 18 with the Ford EcoBoost 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
