Collin Klein has one last chance to impress Heisman voters

Ronald Martinez

Even with Kansas State out of the national title contention, Collin Klein deserves one more game before the Heisman Trophy winner is decided.

It's easy to count out quarterback Collin Klein from the Heisman Trophy race after Kansas State suffered a crushing loss to the Baylor, costing them a shot at the national championship. Klein, however, deserves one more game, a meeting with the Texas Longhorns with the Big 12 title on the line, before voters decide on the Heisman winner.

Steve Greenberg isn't ready to discount Klein yet and believes a great performance against Texas could change the minds of many:

Let's get way hypothetical for a moment. Let your imagination wander to a fourth-and-goal for the Wildcats at the 3-yard line, with the scoreboard reading Texas 48, K-State 42 with 1 second to play. Klein takes the shotgun snap, barrels into the line and carries three defenders with him into the end zone-for his seventh touchdown of the night.

It's the biggest play in program history! America goes wild! Klein changes Manziel voters' minds everywhere but Texas and the Southeast!

Klein's and every other Heisman candidate's greatest competition will be Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel.

Like Klein, Manziel is a duel-threat QB and has amassed strong numbers in both the passing game and ground attack. The freshman passed for 3,419 yards and 24 touchdowns, while rushing for an additional 1,181 and scoring 19. In comparison, Klein has thrown for 2,306 yards with 14 touchdowns and rushed for 787 and 20 scores.

The Heisman could also be won by a player on the other side of the football in Notre Dame's Manti Te'o. A magical season culminating in a spot in the national title game might be the difference in deciding the Heisman winner.
