Redskins responded to Mike Shanahan's challege

Patrick McDermott

The Washington Redskins came back with a 31-6 win over the Philadelphia Eagles after dropping what coach Mike Shanahan called a "must-win."

After seemingly giving up on the season and proclaiming that the rest of the year will be for evaluating, coach Mike Shanahan's comments were answered by the Washington Redskins with a dominating 31-6 win over the Philadelphia Eagles this past week.

The victory broke a three-game losing streak and came after a defeat to the Carolina Panthers, a game Shanahan called a must-win. Now, with the Eagles struggling after an injury to starting quarterback Michael Vick and the New York Giants dropping two straight, the Redskins find themselves two games back of the division lead.

Washington still has four of its remaining six contests against division opponents in an attempt to climb in the standings. While the Redskins aren't in the catbird seat, they're also not just playing for the future anymore, either.

The journey to a playoff spot after being left for dead by their own coach continues this weekend against the Dallas Cowboys.
