Texas vs. TCU: Longhorns renew rivalry with Horned Frogs

The Texas Longhorns and TCU Horned Frogs will renew their rivalry on Thursday.

While Texas sheds one historic rivalry, the Longhorns renew another when they meet the TCU Horned Frogs Thursday, Nov. 22 in Austin.

In recent years, Texas A&M has been the Thanksgiving day opponent for Texas, but an ugly dispute and the Aggies' move from the Big 12 to the SEC has sent that rivalry by the wayside. The Longhorns and Aggies will not meet this season, snapping a streak of 96 consecutive years in which the schools squared off on the football field. The last time a college football season did not feature a Texas-Texas A&M contest, Woodrow Wilson was President of the United States.

Taking the Aggies' place on Texas' schedule is TCU. The Longhorns and Horned Frogs kickstart an old Southwest Conference rivalry that essentially ended when the league transformed into the Big 12 before the 1996 season. The teams have played 82 games, with Texas winning 60. In their only meeting since 1995, the Longhorns won, 34-13, on Sept. 8, 2007.

Texas has all the momentum heading into Thursday's game, as the Longhorns have won four consecutive games. TCU, on the other hand, is 2-4 in its last six games. Both teams rank in the middle of the Big 12 pack in scoring offense and defense. Texas scores 39.6 points per game and allows 29.1, ranking sixth in both categories. TCU averages 31.5 points and gives up 24.0, ranking eighth and fourth, respectively.

Texas and TCU kick off Thursday, Nov. 22 at 6:30 p.m. CT. The game will be televised by ESPN.
