Two struggling football teams will take to the field against each other for a Conference USA showdown when UTEP hosts Southern Methodist favored by 2.5 on Saturday.

The Miners are coming off back-to-back road losses to Wisconsin and East Carolina and also suffered early losses to Oklahoma and Ole Miss. UTEP's only win came over New Mexico State, 41-28, on September 15. Each of the Miners' losses has been by double digits.

Southern Methodist is coming off a 24-16 loss to 15th ranked TCU last Saturday. The Mustangs also lost to Baylor and Texas A&M and their only win came against Stephen F. Austin, 52-0, on September 8.

Both Southern Methodist and UTEP are chasing Conference USA South Division leading University of Tulsa. Tulsa is currently 2-0 in the conference and 4-1 overall.

The line opened with Southern Methodist favored by 2.5 but has since shifted in UTEP's direction by the same margin.
