Lamar Odom On Recent Performance: 'Still Ugly'

After getting off to a slow start in Dallas, Lamar Odom had his best performance of the season against Phoenix, scoring 15 points on 6-12 shooting and grabbing 5 rebounds.

However, last season's Sixth Man of the Year in LA is still not entirely satisfied with his play for the Mavericks:

"This is still ugly for me," Odom said after his 15-point, five-rebound, two-steal night in the Mavs’ 98-89 win Wednesday over the Suns. "I’m used to really playing at a high level. I could really help this team. There are so many plays, so many plays, basketball plays. I’ll just keep working and working and working until I get to that level that I’m used to playing at."

After starting off the season as a back-up power forward and center, which was his role for the Lakers, Odom has found more success recently playing as a small forward as a part of a super-sized front-line next to two 6'11+ players in Ian Mahinmi and Dirk.

That group was on the floor for Dallas' 12-1 run in the fourth-quarter of the Suns game.

Defensively, Mahinmi's foot-speed allows Dallas to live with the dribble penetration the two 30-something forwards allow, while Odom's size at 6'10 is a valuable weapon at the small forward position.
