Oklahoma Sooners Vs. Florida State Seminoles: Top Five Teams Collide In Tallahassee

Landry Jones looks to improve his Heisman candidacy as the top-ranked Sooners head to Doak Campbell Stadium to take on the fifth-ranked Seminoles.

Another top five battle in college football takes place on Saturday, as the top-ranked Oklahoma Sooners travel to Tallahassee to take on the fifth-ranked Florida State Seminoles at Doak Campbell Stadium.

The Sooners and Seminoles met early last season when Oklahoma demolished Florida State 47-17.

For Oklahoma, it'll be just the second game of the season. The Sooners blew out Tulsa on September 3rd, winning 47-14 behind 375 passing yards from quarterback and Heisman candidate Landry Jones. Junior running back Dominique Whaley ran for 131 yards and four touchdowns. Oklahoma's offense, though, will be facing stiffer competition than Tulsa's defense on Saturday night.

Jimbo Fisher's Seminoles are coming off of back-to-back blowout wins over cupcake opponents. Florida State started out their season with a dominant 34-0 win over Louisiana Monroe before taking Charleston Southern to task last week, winning 62-10.

Junior quarterback EJ Manuel has thrown for 589 yards so far on the season for the Seminoles, while throwing six touchdowns and two interceptions as well.

The game on Saturday will mark Florida State's third consecutive home game to start the season, though it can be easily expected that the crowd will be much more raucous for Saturday night's game compared to the last two weeks.

While it's still early in the season, there are major BCS implications involved. A win for either team would register an extremely quality win - and perhaps even give leeway for a loss later in the season. A loss, conversely, would put enormous pressure on either club, since it's virtually impossible for a two-loss team to be playing in the national championship game.

Kickoff is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. EDT, 7:00 p.m. CDT. Televised coverage can be found on ABC.
