Mavericks Vs. Clippers: Dallas Tops Los Angeles 107-96, Snaps Losing Streak

Dallas, TX (Sports Network) – Dirk Nowitzki scored 16 of his 20 points in the second half and Dallas continued its domination of the Los Angeles Clippers with a 107-96 victory at American Airlines Center.

Corey Brewer also had 20 points, while J.J. Barea and Tyson Chandler each scored 15 for the Mavericks, who remained a game ahead of Oklahoma City for the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference with three contests remaining for each team.

Shawn Marion ended with 13 points and 10 rebounds for Dallas, which overcame a 16-point deficit and snapped a four-game skid. The Mavs shot 59.5 percent from the field in the second half, including a 12-of-19 clip in the fourth quarter.

Mo Williams had 29 points, while Blake Griffin contributed 23 points, nine rebounds and six assists for the Clippers. Eric Gordon had 11 points in LA’s second straight loss.

Jason Terry In Sideline Altercation With Rick Carlisle, Jose Barea

Jason Terry had an ugly moment at the Mavericks bench in the second quarter of Friday’s game, exchanging words with Rick Carlisle and teammate Jose Barea. Eddie Sefko has the rundown:

It started with Terry getting the ball taken away that led to a Clippers’ bucket.

Upon the following inbounds pass, he rolled the ball toward Barea and Barea clearly wasn’t happy with the way the ball was delivered to him.

The Mavericks called a timeout and when Terry got to the bench, Barea was yelling at him. Soon, Terry was yelling back and several assistant coaches and players intervened.

Then coach Rick Carlisle got involved and clearly wasn’t happy with what was transpiring. It looked like Carlisle was motioning Terry to leave the bench area. Terry took a seat at the far end of the bench and players and assistant coaches continued to talk to him and keep him away from the main huddle.

Terry has not returned to the game.

Corey Brewer Gets First Start With Mavericks

Corey Brewer has found court time difficult to find since joining the Dallas Mavericks, but a strong stretch, coupled with some more down time for Jason Kidd, has earned him a start tonight against the Clippers. He will start beside Rodrigue Beaubois, who will fill in for Kidd at point guard, as the Mavericks look at a possible future starting backcourt.

While Kidd will miss his second straight game, center Tyson Chandler will return to the lineup after his own two-game hiatus. Dirk Nowitzki and Shawn Marion are both active and will start at forward. They’ll try to help Chandler contain Blake Griffin.

Dallas Mavericks Vs. Los Angeles Clippers: Mavs Look To Snap Losing Skid

(Sports Network) - The suddenly struggling Dallas Mavericks will try to right the ship in Big D Friday when they shoot for their 10th straight win over the Los Angeles Clippers.

Dallas has locked up home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs but had dreams of catching San Antonio and the Lakers for one of the top two spots in the West. Those hopes have gone up in smoke since the Mavs closed a season-long six-game road trip with three straight losses and extended that with another setback against Denver in north Texas on Wednesday.

J.R. Smith took his turn leading the balanced Nuggets in scoring in that one, tallying 23 points off the bench, as Denver edged Dallas, 104-96, in what could be a playoff preview.

Shawn Marion led Dallas with 21 points and 10 rebounds, Dirk Nowitzki donated 20 points, Jason Terry 15 and Corey Brewer 13 off the bench. Brendan Haywood grabbed a season-high 19 rebounds, including eight offensive boards, but remarkably took just one shot.

"Every time we made a run, they made a big shot," said Nowitzki.

J.J. Barea scored 12 points and dished out 10 assists and Brian Cardinal chipped in 13 points for the Mavericks, who are two games back of the Lakers for the second seed with four games remaining. Dallas, however, should be more concerned with hard-charging Oklahoma City, which is now a game behind in the race for the third slot.

The Clippers had a two-game winning streak stopped by the Thunder on Wednesday as Kevin Durant dropped 29 points and seven rebounds, as Oklahoma City edged Los Angeles, 112-108, to capture the Northwest Division title.

Oklahoma City native Blake Griffin had a game-high 35 points and 11 rebounds for the Clippers. Eric Gordon and Mo Williams each had 16 points, while Williams pitched in nine assists in the loss.

"I didn't think we played very well the first half," Clippers head coach Vinny Del Negro said.

The Mavs have won 15 of 16 overall against the Clips, including all three meetings this season. Dallas has also won eight straight and 21 of 24 over the Clippers in north Texas.
