2012 NFL Mock Draft: SB Nation Has Dallas Cowboys Going Defense In Round One

According to the latest mock draft from SB Nation, the Dallas Cowboys will be taking Nebraska Cornhuskers cornerback Alfonzo Dennard with their first pick come April. via sbnation.com

16. Dallas Cowboys - Alfonzo Dennard, CB, Nebraska
Dallas was keenly interested in drafting Nebraska corner Prince Amukamara last year. Having waited a year, they get the better of Nebraska's fearsome duo in the secondary from 2010 to improve their shaky pass defense.

SB Nation's Mocking The Draft had this to say about Dennard. via mockingthedraft.com

Dennard has been a starter since midway through the 2009 season but really came on as a junior. He finished last season with four interceptions and seven pass breakups while starting 13 games. Dennard is an all-around cornerback who plays the run well, when asked. Dennard strongly considered going pro following his junior season, but his mother urged him to return to school. That will allow Dennard to get his sociology degree.

Robert Griffin III Draft Watch: Heisman Winner Projected To Go No. 6 In SBNation Mock

With Baylor QB Robert Griffin III's Heisman win still fresh in everyone minds, the draft buzz for the redshirt junior QB has never been higher.

In SBNation's first 2012 NFL Mock Draft, the multi-dimensional 6'2 220 QB is projected to go No. 6 to the Washington Redskins and possibly even higher:

6. Washington Redskins - Robert Griffin III, QB, Baylor
John BeckRex Grossman...neither of these guys have shown they can be the future in Washington. That changes with the selection of RG3. Mike Shanahan finally gets the building block he needs to finally make the Redskins a threat in the NFC East. Griffin may not have the complete package that Andrew Luck has, but he would be worthy of the first overall pick in any other year.

While Griffin still has a year of eligibility left, few would fault him for leaving on top, especially considering that he's already received his bachelor's degree as well as an MA in his time in Waco.

The QB situation at the top of this year's draft is fairly unsettled after likely No. 1 pick Andrew Luck of Stanford.

The next four teams -- the St. Louis Rams (Sam Bradford), the Minnesota Vikings (Christian Ponder), the Jacksonville Jaguars (Blaine Gabbert) and Carolina Panthers (Cam Newton) -- have all committed to young QB's in the last few drafts.

It's very possible that one of the QB-needy teams later in the draft, like the Washington Redskins, the Miami Dolphins or the Seattle Seahawks, will move up to try and select Griffin or USC's Matt Barkley, another junior who will have to decide whether he wants to return to school next season.

2011 Heisman Trophy Winner Is Robert Griffin III

Baylor Bears quarterback Robert Griffin III made an amazing late season run to just become a Heisman Trophy finalist, and now he is the 77th winner of the award. Griffin beat out Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck, Alabama running back Trent Richardson, LSU defensive back Tyrann Mathieu and Wisconsin running back Montee Ball.

Griffin's hype started in the first week of the season when he put up 50 points on the TCU and closed out the season by putting up the most yards against a Texas defense that was ranked No. 14 in the nation.

Over at SB Nation's Baylor blog Our Daily Bears, they explain Griffin's candidacy:

Robert Griffin III deserves the Heisman Trophy because he was, by any measure, the most outstanding player in college football this year.

In leading Baylor to a 9-3 record and No. 12 ranking in the BCS, Griffin amassed over 4,500 total yards and 45 touchdowns, broke the NCAA single-season record for passing efficiency (192.3 for Griffin this year), and led the country in yards per pass attempt. Baylor's offense ranked No. 1 in the country according to Football Outsider's FEI, while most rankings had our defense in the 100s.

No player means more to his team or to his community than Robert Griffin, who played his best in Baylor's biggest games (particularly against OU and UT late in the season). He delivered constant excitement and led his team to heights we've never seen before. He deserves the Heisman.

Griffin is Baylor's first ever Heisman trophy winner.

Heisman Trophy Race 2011: Griffin The Heavy Betting Favorite

While the winner of the 2011 Heisman Trophy won't be announced until Saturday, if the odds makers in Las Vegas are correct, Baylor's Robert Griffin III should win the award going away.

The line has moved several times in the last week, and now Griffin is an overwhelming 1/7 favorite to win the award, meaning a better has to wager $7.00 on Griffin to win to get $1.00 back.

In contrast, the other two front-runners, Stanford QB Andrew Luck and Alabama RB Trent Richardson, are getting 11/4 and 11/2 odds respectively, despite receiving more publicity than Griffin for most of the season.

The odds makers don't consider either Wisconsin RB Montee Ball or LSU CB Tyrann Mathieu as serious contenders for the award, as Ball is getting 50/1 odds while Mathieu is all the way back at 100/1.

With many prominent national sports writers already revealing that they voted for Griffin, Saturday's Heisman Trophy presentation is beginning to look like a formality.

Robert Griffin III Wins Final Heismanpundit.com Straw Poll

Over the last four seasons, the final straw poll at Heismanpundit.com has correctly predicted which player will win the Heisman trophy. If the pattern continues, Baylor QB Robert Griffin III will bring home the school's first Heisman trophy, as he was the clear leader over Stanford QB Andrew Luck and Alabama RB Trent Richardson.

The poll is comprised of thirteen actual Heisman voters from around the country, and Griffin, who received eight first-place votes, was the only player on every ballot.

He finished with 38 cumulative points, easily out-distancing Luck (23) and Richardson (10):

"Griffin III been spectacular from the opener and finished with a flourish," said one voter.

"He was the no-brainer choice," said another.

Griffin, who led the Bears to their most successful season in fifteen years of Big 12 play, opened the year strong with a nationally-televised upset of TCU before racking up a litany of statistical achievements while leading Baylor to victories over both Oklahoma and Texas.

He completed 72.8% of his passes for 3,998 yards with 36 TD's and only 6 INT's, while also rushing for 644 yards and 9 TD's.
