BCS Championship 2011: Oklahoma State Appears Likely To Be Left Out

Tweets from various sources Sunday afternoon present an ominous situation for Oklahoma State and their hopes of playing in this season’s BCS Championship game. The Cowboys blew out their in-state rival Oklahoma Sooners Saturday night to the tune of 44-10, but they needed to make up significant ground on Alabama in the BCS Rankings. Preliminary indications via Twitter are that they failed to do so.

Sources tell me it’s official: LSU-Alabama, the sequel.

@CecilHurt
The AT&T Cotton Bowl just tweeted that they will have the “only” Big 12-SEC matchup.

Oklahoma State was ranked third in the BCS Rankings behind LSU and Alabama leading into the final week and needed to gain ground in the computer rankings and human poll. While they likely made up ground in the computers, Oklahoma’s unimpressive showing against a mediocre Texas Tech team and its second loss at Baylor, combined with Oklahoma State’s utter dominance Saturday night, might have made them look like a less impressive opponent to voters, many of whom may also have already made up their mind whether or not they wanted to see a sequel of the Alabama vs. LSU game.
