John Itati continued the Kenyan streak in the Dallas White Rock Lake Marathon Sunday morning, winning the full marathon with a time of 2:17:21. The time beat last year’s top time of 2:18:37 despite miserable weather. Kirwa finished second, four seconds off of his 2010 pace. Americans finished in the next five spots, with three locals – Jeff Sadler of Waco, Moninda Marube of Arlington, and Kolin Styles of Weatherford – in the group.
Natalya Sergeyeva won on the womens side with a 2:35:18 time – a full seven minutes better than last year’s winning pace. Sergeyeva finished eighth overall. Two Kenyans, Hyvon Ngetich and Doreen Kitaka, also beat least year’s top womens time.
Weather was a factor as expected, with temps in the 40’s and wind and rain that caused some of the runners to take cover during the race. The half marathon and relays weren’t expected to catch a break either, with temperatures falling throughout the day.
