Poinsettia Bowl 2011: TCU A Double Digit Favorite Over Louisiana Tech

The Horned Frogs will try to finish with 11 wins for the fourth-straight season under Gary Patterson.

After narrowly missing out on an BCS berth by winning the Mountain West Conference for the third straight season, the No. 21 TCU Horned Frogs fell all the way to the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl and a match-up with the WAC champion Louisiana Tech Bulldogs.

TCU is a -11 favorite over LA Tech in Wednesday's bowl game.

The 10-2 Horned Frogs are on a seven-game winning streak since losing an overtime game to area rival SMU on Oct. 1.

In his first year taking over at QB for Andy Dalton, sophomore Casey Pachall has emerged as a star, completing 67.8% of his passes for 2,715 passing yards, 24 TD's and only 6 INT's.

While head coach Gary Patterson's teams are usually known for their defense, Pachall's offense carried TCU for most of the season, averaging 41.7 points a game, ninth best in the nation.

They'll be going up against a potent Louisiana Tech offense coached by Sonny Dykes, a disciple of Mike Leach who coached under him at Texas Tech. The Bulldogs averaged 30.6 points a game this season, 41rst best in the nation.

The Bulldogs turned around their season with the insertion of junior QB Colby Cameron into the starting line-up on Oct. 29, running the table to win only the second WAC championship in the school's history.

With two high-scoring offenses squaring off in San Diego, the odds-makers set the over/under for Wednesday's game at 55.5.
