Cowboys Could Receive A Sixth Round Pick For Patrick Crayton

Todd Archer tweets:

Crayton trade update: if he catches 40 passes this year the Cowboys get a 6 in return.

Crayton asked for his release earlier today and looks like he’ll have a new team possibly be the end of the day.

Report: Patrick Crayton To Ask For Release

Todd Archer reports that Dallas Cowboys receiver Patrick Crayton will request that the Cowboys release him before final cuts are made Saturday.

The Cowboys could wait on a decision involving Crayton with the hope another team could make some sort of trade offer, however unlikely that seems. Lyles would like Crayton to be free as soon as possible so he can find him a new employer as soon as possible.

Crayton turned in a trade request after the team drafted Dez Bryant in the first round, and it appears that his initial suspicion that he was out of favor with coaches might be correct. Jerry Jones has done nothing but save money this summer, as he released veterans Flozell Adams and Ken Hamlin and failed to bring in a single veteran via free agency or trade.

Jones saved a little by releasing Patrick Watkins' million dollar contract. Replacing Crayton's $2 million and Sam Hurd's $1.7 million contracts with first year players would move the late summer savings to almost $4 million in this uncapped year.
