Mavericks guard Rodrigue Beaubois, no longer on crutches following surgery on his broken right foot, is targeting a return date of August 27th, when Dallas will kick off its 2010/11 campaign against the Charlotte Bobcats, reports Eddie Sefko of the Dallas Morning News. The 22-year-old dazzled in his rookie year, leading all rookies who appeared in at least 50 games in per-minute scoring and placing sixth in field-goal percentage.
If Beaubois can’t return by that date, Dallas still has enough guards who can fill in for him. By acquiring Dominique Jones on Draft Night, Dallas added another lightning-quick, shoot-first combo guard to its stable of steady veteran backcourt players, which includes Jason Kidd, Jason Terry, and Jose Juan Barea.
Beaubois averaged 7.1 points in just 12.5 minutes per game as a rookie, making 56 appearances.
