Per Evan Grant, the Rangers have signed free agent infielder Alex Cora.
Cora is slated to head to AAA Oklahoma City and, according to Grant, could be in Arlington with the Rangers as soon as next Monday.
The signing comes on the heels of Joaquin Arias’ defensive meltdown on Monday night in Tampa Bay, but the Rangers interest in Cora had been made known prior to Monday’s game.

According to Ken Rosenthal, the Rangers are considering signing infielder Alex Cora. Cora was recently released by the New York Mets. In 169 at bats, Cora has managed only 35 hits and 10 walks, good for a .207 average and .265 on base percentage. Further, he's had only nine extra base hits (six doubles, three triples) which puts his slugging percentage at .278.
Cora played primarily at second base this year for the Mets, logging 344 innings there in 47 games. He's also made six appearances at shortstop and two at first base.
