A league source told ESPN Dallas that the Mavericks have sent out feelers on free agent wing Rasual Butler.
Butler, 31, has been an 11-12 point guy for the past two seasons with the Clippers while receiving starter's minutes (31.9, 33.0 respectively) for the first time in his career. Three-point shooting is key to his game, but his percentage dropped from 39.0 to 33.6 last season. He is a quality defender at the three spot and would add to Dallas' versatility in defending teams with multiple wing scorers.
Butler made $3.9 million last season, and Dallas would presumably be interested in using one of their salary exceptions - possibly a portion of their midlevel exception - to bring him in. The Mavericks' largest chip in acquiring additional talent is still Erick Dampier's $13 million non-guaranteed contract.
