Mavericks Could Trade Into First Round

Stay connected for news and updates

According to Eddie Sefko of the Dallas Morning News, the Dallas Mavericks, admittedly looking to move higher in the second round from their 50th overall pick, could also be able to trade into the mid-first round by using their trade exception obtained last season along with Eduardo Najera in exchange for Kris Humphries. NBA rules stipulate that trade exceptions must be swapped one-for-one with other contracts, so a "free" draft pick could be a good use for the relatively small dollar asset (no more than $2.4 million).

Dallas dealt their first round pick to New Jersey in the Jason Kidd trade in the spring of 2008 and recently concluded the Shawne Williams trade by conceding their second rounder to Indiana. The NBA Draft is Thursday night, beginning at 6:00 CDT.
